South Dakota Voices For Peace 
The Monthly

​Mission:  South Dakota Voices for Peace builds power and enables healing in immigrant refugee, and Muslim communities by amplifying their voices in solidarity with all who dismantle bigotry and racism.

Vision:  We imagine a South Dakota that is diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist.

SDVFP has four programming areas: Education/Training, Outreach/Civic Engagement, Legal Services, and Rapid Response. ​

This month we are celebrating our Multilingual Community Outreach team! Our team has been traveling throughout Sioux Falls, educating community members on how to enroll in Medicaid Expansion and how to save money on their monthly internet bill through the Affordable Connectivity Program! Read on to see what we've been up to.

LATINO FESTIVAL 2023

This month, we were at the first annual Latino Festival at Levitt at the Falls! It was amazing to see the community come together to embrace and celebrate Latino culture by supporting businesses, eating delicious food, and listening to amazing music. We had an awesome time connecting with community members, sharing information, and giving away prizes!

MEET ASTRID ROSARIO
OUR DIGITAL EQUITY COORDINATOR

Astrid has nearly 5 years of experience as a Community Resource Provider and Office Manager. She spent a few years on the Cinco De Mayo Entertainment Committee for the Falls Park Fiesta. Astrid enjoys talking to people who need help accessing community resource needs. She has built a network of connections in the Sioux Falls Hispanic community. 

Astrid is fluent in English and Spanish, and has been using her skills to help clients sign up for the Affordable Connectivity Program to save $30 on their monthly internet bill!

​We are committed to making sure EVERYONE has access to internet. The Affordable Connectivity Program helps qualified households with their internet bills by giving them $30 off their monthly internet bill.

PRIORITIZE YOUR HEALTHCARE

In November of 2022, the people of South Dakota voted to expand Medicaid, meaning that more people can now access affordable healthcare! But, not everyone is taking advantage of this opportunity. Don't wait until it is too late to prioritize your healthcare! Check out these bilingual flyers (which we hand out at outreach events) to learn how you might be able to access Medicaid Expansion. The Medicaid Expansion application is a short process (less than an hour), and can open up a more accessible world of healthcare. Feel free to share this information with friends and family!

We’re on the hunt for a Multilingual Speaking Outreach Coordinator. Be the bridge that connects new U.S. citizens, immigrants, refugees, and the undocumented to vital health equity outreach opportunities in the eastern half of South Dakota.

•  Have a knack for forming partnerships and understanding community needs?
•  Ready to travel and make a real difference?
•  Experienced in connecting with diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and linguistic communities?

Your role will involve:
• Building strong connections in Sioux Falls.
• Raising awareness about SDVFP’s transformative programs.
• Networking, collaborating, and breaking barriers to ensure healthcare and social services accessibility.

NEW MERCH!

Awesome news! In honor of Hispanic and Latino heritage month (September 15th - October 15th), we have expanded our merch collection to include a Spanish translation of our "No Human is Illegal" merch!

Purchasing from our merch store is a donation to our cause, plus you get a cool shirt to wear! ALL proceeds from our online store help us to provide a better life to immigrant children and immigrant survivors of violence on their pathways to US citizenship. As a reminder, we are the only organization in South Dakota that provides FREE immigration legal services to children and survivors of crime.
