STEP 1: Call your federal legislators

STEP 2: State your address and the reason that you are calling. 

Keep your comments brief. Here is a suggested script:

 “My name is (First and Last name) and I reside at HOME ADDRESS (1234 Ceasefire Lane Sioux Falls, SD 57101.) Could you connect me with someone who can help me with my concerns regarding Gaza?”

*Note: The legislators’ offices may ask for your address or phone number to confirm that you are a constituent and to track what areas of South Dakota comments are coming from.

STEP 3: State your concern.

Feel free to share your own thoughts, but if you are unsure of what to say, here is a suggested script:

"I'm calling to express my concerns about the situation in Gaza and its impact on innocent civilians.

[insert 1-2 concise points here, use current events and check our social media and website for updated scripts] EX: Just this week we learned about the horrendous bombing of the largest hospital in Gaza where innocent medical professionals have been killed and innocent newborns have died because of the lack of power.

[Insert Ask here] EX: We need a ceasefire immediately, so diplomatic measures can take place to negotiate humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and the release of hostages. As a South Dakotan, I can’t have my tax dollars funding killings of innocent people.”

Use this time to also share any personal impact stories, or ask when the politician will be back in SD so you can meet with them if you want.

Final notes

You have a right to contact your legislators and make your voice heard! You also do not have to be a U.S. citizen- our legislators represent all of us. Calling all 3 S.D. federal legislators is a simple process that takes less than 10 minutes in total. 

Together we can make a difference. Let's make our voices heard and demand an end to the suffering of innocent people.
