Temporary Seasonal Outreach Coordinator
South Dakota Voices for Peace (SDVFP) seeks a Bilingual (Spanish and English Speaking) Community Health Worker (CHW) to bridge the gap between immigrant, refugee, and Muslim communities and health/social services systems. This includes walking alongside community members as they navigate complex systems to ensure community members are receiving services. The new CHW will engage and support community members as well as SDVFP’s clients who are currently in the immigration legal system. This position will collaborate with all teams within SDVFP.
The CHW must be self-motivated with a passion for community development and experienced in working with multilingual and vulnerable clients. The CHW must be detail oriented and track client interactions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Enhance the client’s ability to effectively communicate with healthcare and service providers
Refer, support, and connect clients and families to resources including food, housing, health insurance, health information, quality healthcare, and other social services.
Coordinate transportation to appointments and serve as a client/patient advocate and interpreter when needed.
Network with other community partners and healthcare providers to understand services available and to build trust with partner organizations and SDVFP.
Bring awareness to community partners and institutions regarding barriers and needs from a community perspective.
Document referrals and interactions with clients and community members using the system developed by SDVFP.
Attend community events including events with other SDVFP teams for visibility as a community resource and educate on programs SDVFP offers the community.
Attend Home visits (at a location determined with clients) with clients and community members.
Travel as Required.
Troubleshoot barriers to access to healthcare and social services.
Identify and understand individual and community needs.
Serve as liaison between families, neighborhood centers, and schools to understand the fundamental needs of the community when they are in crisis.
Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
Attend meetings, training, and seminars as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to the mission and goals of SD Voices for Peace and SD Voices for Justice
Knowledge and familiarity with culture and community of immigrant/refugee population(s) in SD and immigration issues impacting these communities.
Ability to work well with a team and have the initiative to be productive on your own.
Ability to complete CHW Certification within a year
High school diploma or GED
Community work experience preferred
Bilingual in Spanish and English.

The SDVFP Legal Case Manager is an essential member of the SDVFP Legal Team. This position is responsible for immigration case management for clients who are children in immigration court, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking survivors with immigration legal needs living in South Dakota. The Legal Case Manager must be a self-motivated advocate with a passion for justice and equity and experience in working with multilingual, vulnerable clients. This position is based in Sioux Falls, SD. The Legal Case Manager will assist in all interpretations and translations and assist in gathering evidence to build strong immigration cases for clients. The Legal Case Manager will work on a team with Case Coordinators, Staff Attorneys and under the supervision of the Managing Attorney and CEO.
Primary Responsibilities:
Answer all organizational phone calls
Screen, assess, and evaluate community members need to establish eligibility for immigration services at SDVFP.
Guide community members through scheduled Master Calendar Hearings through Webex.
Assist supervisory attorney and staff attorney in completing forms assigned to cases based on client eligibility.
Take initiative to troubleshoot client and case issues with legal team
Schedule meetings and calls between clients and attorneys.
Assist with all client interpretation and translation: including meetings, calls, and documentation from Spanish to English and vice versa.
Check SDVFP mail 2-3 times a week: conduct follow-up of cases to clients + obtain missing documentation. Including any Request for Evidence (RFE), confirm receipt notices and communication from State Department, USCIS, and EOIR.
Support and coordinate complex legal filings.
Ensure legal commitments, SDVFP policies and procedures, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
Collect and manage legal files, in electronic and paper form.
Draft and revise complex legal documents for review by attorney.
Independently draft well-written memoranda, correspondence, and transaction documents and revise as necessary.
Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential case files: daily file organization of all spreadsheets, phone trackers, and physical client folders.
Fully understand functions of case management system.
Independently interact and coordinate with assigned staff, clients and outside parties.
Supervise and/or provide guidance and training to less experienced paralegals, legal support staff, and volunteers.
May assist SDVFP attorneys in trainings for SDVFP staff.
Report any request for information on Grants.
Work with colleagues and community members to develop public education materials and communication strategies.
Conduct presentations in multilingual communities by articulating the interests and position of SDVFP.
Collaborate with Community Health Worker to meet client needs and requests.
Be available to assist with organizational events.

Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to the mission and goals of the SD Voices for Peace and SD Voices for Justice.
2-4 years of community experience.
2-4 years of case management experience.
Relevant legal experience in immigration law.
Ability to use Windows Office 365, case management system Docketwise and Google Suite: Microsoft Office, Adobe, OneDrive/Google Shared Drives and Gmail.
Knowledge and familiarity with culture and community of immigrant/refugee population(s) and immigration issues impacting these communities.
Ability to take constructive feedback from team to build more efficient processes and willingness to learn.
Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable clients including children.
Demonstrated ability to work with multilingual clients and interpreters.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple deadlines effectively.
Ability to manage stress and practice regular self-care.
Fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team and take direction.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Balance frustration with case process and client communication
Flexible to court changes, immigration changes, and process flow.
