Hand in Hand: Justice for Immigrant Children, a project of SD Voices for Peace, was born out of the community’s desire to take action for Unaccompanied Minors and families separated at the border during the first Families Belong Together Rally in Sioux Falls, SD, where nearly 400 showed up. People decided that raising funds to hire an immigration lawyer and support staff to provide legal representation for these children and families would make the most impact.
Without a lawyer, 90% of unaccompanied minors in immigration court will lose their asylum claims and be deported back to the dangerous environments from which they escaped. |
The Hand in Hand committee hopes to build a statewide network of volunteers to transport children and families to immigration court in Minnesota, and to assist in other capacities.
Since its beginning, Hand in Hand has raised enough funds to hire a staff attorney and case manager, and needs continued support to continue providing free legal services to SD children and families in immigration court. Donate to help us sustain this program! 100% of proceeds to Hand in Hand will fund case manager salary, staff attorney salary, legal fees, child psychological evaluations, and other administrative costs associated with preparing asylum cases and attending immigration court.
